For Maurice Mouzon Jr., becoming a professional ballet dancer was never part of the original plan. He grew up playing football in Baltimore and didn't begin dancing until he was 14. When he walked into his first ballet audition wearing basketball shorts and getting nearly every combination wrong, he had no reason to believe a professional dance career was ahead of him.

But the instructors saw something beyond technique: enthusiasm, determination, and an undeniable ability to perform.
